SELF-PORTRAITS

“Stammer explores the intersections of objectification, erotica, pain and self-image in an attempt to understand how to experience one’s body as something else than an object. Starting with painting she asks how the female painter is to exist as something else than an object within the painting. How she is to avoid becoming both the reenactment of the male gaze and the gazed upon object? This is the beginning of a disruption and an exploration of the male gaze. This is the first step on the road to a transformation of the body, in order for it to become home and a place of joy.”
